Natural Peanut Butter + Date Caramel Sauce

Our Natural Peanut Butter needs a date for valentines day - and we think we found it's perfect match.

That's right: dates (the fruit!) Have you tried them in your recipes to add that bit of sweetness? Cause wow - they work PERFECT to imitate a sweet caramel flavour. This got me thinking... what happens when they are mixed with a little peanut butter for creaminess? Amazing things, let me tell you (and show you). But trust me, the pictures below don't do this sauce justice. Plus, it's so easy to make and only 3 ingredients! A must-have after dinner dessert for the kiddos (and there won't be one doubt in their mind that they are having something secretly healthy). Just follow the easy and quick recipe below to see what I'm talking about!

Make time: 2 hrs prep | 5 min cook | Makes a 473g nudefood PB jar | Vegan | Gluten Free

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups pitted dates
  • 1 tbsp nudefood Peanut Butter (Smooth, Crunchy, Coconut or Chocolate)
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • Whatever you want to sprinkle on top - we chose shredded coconut this time!

Method

1. Cover pitted dates in warm water and let soak for 2 hours.
2. Drain water and add 1 tbsp coconut oil and 1 tbsp nudefood Peanut Butter to a blender. Blend together thoroughly.

3. Spread on apples or use as a dip for any snack. Top with shredded coconut, sprinkles, chocolate chips or anything your heart desires!

Not only do dates add a little sweetness, they are high in antioxidants and fibre, which help maintain your body's health and function. Just 2 dates provide 3.2 grams of fibre, almost 1 gram of protein, no fat, 2% daily value calcium, 2% daily value iron, 7% daily value potassium, 7% daily value vitamin B6 and 6% daily value magnesium!

Mixed with the peanut butter, this spread makes for a killer post-workout snack, with a ton of protein and vitamins from the nuts-and even MORE antioxidants! Spread on nature's healthiest cracker (a sliced apple) you have yourself the perfect balance of essential food groups all in one delicious snack.

Also, you can add a bit of cocao powder or use natural chocolate peanut butter to have a caramely-chocolate spread (for special occasions 😉). Let us know if you tried it, and what you sprinkled on!
