Natural Peanut Butter Oat Balls

Two words that are music to my ears: no bake.

That’s when I know a recipe is going to be easy to make, use less dishes, and need less energy (both because the oven is off, and because it takes less steps for the chef.) The only kitchen appliance you will need is a blender (or food processor if you prefer).

What better way to make your daily power snack than to save money by making it at home! When it comes to protein power foods, there is often a misconception that the easiest way to eat them is to get them packaged at the store. Well, these time-saving peanut butter oats balls put all those protein bars and workout powders to shame… and put any snack to shame, really.

In one bite sized ball, you can get around 6 grams of protein and 4 grams of fibre, and it is full of energy for all the adventures you have planned for your day! Plus, there is oatmeal in it as well – so it’s pretty much the perfect breakfast food to grab while rushing out of the house, or during a busy morning full of zoom meetings.

Did I also mention they are vegan? That’s right, a plant based protein ball that does it all – and tastes delicious. The one thing I regret not adding to the mix (and are sooo excited to do so next time) is chocolate chips! Even using chocolate natural peanut butter instead of regular is a great option to turn these balls into a delicious post-dinner snack you can have when you are craving dessert.

Do I have your mouth watering yet? Just thinking about them makes me want to whip up another batch. That being said, I’ll be right back…

The Recipe – No Bake Natural Peanut Butter Oat Balls

Make Time: 20 minutes
Makes: 20 balls

Ingredients

Directions

  1. If you have whole flaxseeds on hand, throw them in your blender, and blend until they are all ground up.
  2. Add 1 cup of rolled oats and ½ cup of natural peanut butter into your blender.
  3. Finally, add ⅓ cup maple syrup, and blend until it’s thoroughly mixed (30 seconds – 1 minute)
  4. If you want to ensure your oat mixture turns into balls easily, throw your blender in the fridge for about 15 minutes.
  5. Take out of the fridge, and take about a tablespoon of the oat mixture. Roll with the palms of your hands until it is an awesome ball shape and put on the serving plate of your choice.

FAQ’s

How to store the extras?

Keep them in an airtight container, and keep them in the fridge. To keep for up to 3 months, you can put them in the freezer!

What if I don’t have flax seed… can I substitute something?

Chia and hemp seeds are great substitutions that have a similar amount of protein and nutrients. You can substitute them one to one.

What should I do if my mixture is too dry?

If it is difficult to roll your oat balls and they won’t stick, try adding a splash of water, milk or a bit more peanut butter to help bind everything together.
